eggz never guesses a date

Some receipts arrive without a readable transaction date — a faded docket, a screenshot with the date cropped off. Rather than silently assuming a date (and quietly putting the purchase in the wrong month), eggz holds the receipt in an explicit Needs date state until you set the real one. You’ll see it in two places:
  • On the Receipts list, the Transaction date column shows an amber Needs date chip instead of a date.
  • On the receipt’s detail page, a Needs date panel explains: “This receipt has no transaction date, so it’s excluded from Billed reports and can’t be published to Xero yet.”

What a missing date means for your reports

An undated receipt is still real money — eggz just won’t place it in a month it can’t verify. Until you set a date:
WhereWhat happens
Billed view — month totalsThe receipt is left out of month-by-month numbers, so no month is padded with a guess. An amber banner keeps the total visible: “Undated — needs review: N receipts · $X” — click it to jump to the Receipts list.
OutstandingIf the receipt is unpaid, it’s still counted in what you owe — shown as its own Undated column in the aging chart (only while any exist), and tagged Undated in the list instead of a days-overdue band, since eggz can’t tell how overdue it is.
Publishing to XeroBlocked until a date is set — see below.
The Billed-view banner only appears while you have undated receipts, and only in that view — fix the dates and it disappears.

Set the date

Open the receipt and find the Needs date panel. There are two ways to fix it:

Tap a suggested bank match

If eggz finds a bank transaction that looks like this purchase — a matching amount, dated close to when you captured the receipt — it offers it as a one-tap button, for example:
Use 12 Jun 2026 · $84.50 · ABC Supplies
Tap it and eggz sets the receipt’s date from that bank record — a date backed by evidence, not a guess.

Or enter it manually

No suggestion, or none of them right? Use the date picker to pick the day yourself, then click Set date. Either way, a confirmation appears: “Date set — reports updated”.

Everything updates automatically

The moment a date is set, the receipt leaves the Needs-date state on its own:
  • It joins the correct month in Billed totals.
  • It leaves the Undated tag in Outstanding and ages normally from its real date.
  • The Billed-view banner count drops (and disappears at zero).
  • Publishing to Xero unlocks.

Why publishing is blocked without a date

If eggz sent a dateless receipt to Xero, Xero would silently stamp it with today’s date — putting the expense in the wrong period without anyone noticing. So the Publish to Xero card on an undated receipt blocks the action up front: “Add a date before publishing to Xero — Xero would otherwise stamp today’s date.” Set the date and publishing works as normal.

Common questions

From bank transactions already in eggz. A suggestion appears when a bank transaction matches the receipt’s amount and falls within about a week of when you captured it. eggz only ever offers the match — nothing is applied until you tap it.
Only from Billed month totals, because eggz can’t honestly say which month it belongs to. It still counts in Outstanding if unpaid, and the Billed-view banner keeps the undated total visible so nothing slips out of sight.
Two different missing dates. Undated means the receipt has no transaction date, so eggz can’t place it in a month at all. “N with no due date” in the Outstanding aging card means a document has a transaction date but no due date, so eggz can’t tell how overdue it is and shows it as Current instead.
