Asking eggheadz

Eggheadz is the team you ask. Open the panel, ask in your own words, and the answer arrives while the page you were on stays where it is.

The panel sits beside your page

Click Ask eggheadz in the top bar and the panel opens down the right-hand side of the screen, and your page makes room for it. Nothing behind the panel is dimmed. You can still click, scroll and type on the page while an answer is on screen, so you can read a bill and ask about it at the same time. Folding is not closing. Eggheadz keeps working behind the pill. The pill says Working while it works, and how many answers are ready once they arrive. Click it and the panel comes back where it was, with your cursor in the ask line. Esc only folds the panel when you are working inside it. If you are typing on the page behind, Esc belongs to the page. And an open menu in the panel, such as the @ menu, takes the first Esc. Make it wider or narrower. Drag the left edge of the panel. Hover over it and the edge thickens and turns gold so you can see what you are about to grab.

• Anywhere from 320 to 640 pixels wide. Past either end it slows and springs back.
• It settles on three widths as you pass them: 360, 400 and 480.
• Double-click the edge to put it back to 400.
• Or use the keyboard. Tab to the edge, then press the left and right arrow keys to move it 40 pixels at a time. Home makes it as narrow as it goes, End as wide.

It remembers your width. The width you chose comes back next time, and so does where you left the panel: docked, floating where you put it, or folded. Each browser tab keeps its own, and a new tab starts from the last choice you made. It is remembered for you, not for the computer, so two people signing in on the same machine each get their own panel back. On a phone or a narrow window there is no room to read a page and a conversation side by side. Below 1024 pixels wide the panel slides in from the right and covers the page. Close it to get back to what you were doing.

Name a record with @

Type @ in the ask line and a menu opens over it. Keep typing to search your suppliers, customers, bills, invoices, quotes, receipts and months.

• Up and down move through the matches. Left and right switch between the kinds, so you can jump from suppliers to months.
• Enter picks the highlighted one, or click it.
• The name becomes a chip in your question, marked with what it is, so @Bunnings Warehouse and @August 2026 each say what they are.
• Backspace right after a chip removes the whole chip. So does the × on it.

The answer is about the record you named. “How much did we spend with @Bunnings Warehouse?” is answered for that supplier, not for one with a similar name, and “what came in during @August 2026?” reads that month. @ works in the ask line of the panel and in the conversation on a record page.

Ask what you made

Ask what you earned, made or took in, for one month or several: “how much did we make in July?” or “what was our net profit last quarter?” The answer is a Profit and loss card for that period, with Income, Expenses and Net profit, before GST if your business is registered for GST. Ask about revenue, income or sales and Income is the big figure at the top; otherwise it’s Net profit. It counts the way your dashboard does: your own pinned view, else your business’s Accounting method from Settings > General, else Money in and out (Cash). If your pin is Outstanding, it uses the business’s method. To count it the other way, ask by name, for example “count it by invoices and bills”. The line under the title names the method, then anything the figures leave out: Questions about spending count the same way and leave out drawings, loans and assets too. A question about one supplier or one category is answered from your bills and receipts when it’s counted by invoices and bills. Counted by money in and out, it’s answered from your payments, and a supplier’s refunds come off.
