Catch bills in the wild

Bills are sneaky. They hide in your email, on supplier websites, and inside PDFs you open and forget about. eggz Tab Manager & Bill Capture helps you grab them the moment you see them, before they turn into an “I’ll deal with it later” pile. There are two shapes to this. One bill on the page you are reading is the banner below. A page that lists dozens of them, like a supplier’s billing portal, is one approval and a single run: see Collect every bill on a page.
This feature needs you to be signed in to eggz, since that’s where your captured bills go.

The “looks like a bill” banner

When you land on a page that looks like an invoice or a bill, including a PDF opened right in Chrome, a small banner slides in at the top of the side panel and offers to save it for you.

Open a bill or invoice

Visit a supplier’s invoice page, or open a bill PDF in your browser.

Spot the banner

The banner reads Invoice detected — save to eggz?, or PDF open — save to eggz? for a PDF. It stays until you close it with the ✕ (Dismiss). It will not time out and vanish while you are still reading the very page it is about.

Send it to eggz

Click Save to eggz. If you are signed out, the button says Sign in instead. For a PDF, the extension sends the original file with its filename and all pages intact; a web-page invoice is captured as a picture of what is visible. Either way it goes straight into your eggz organisation. The banner shows Capturing and uploading… while it works. If something goes wrong it says what, with Retry.
The capture uses the same upload pipeline and credits as the dashboard, so your bill lands in Expenses and starts being read automatically: supplier, amounts, tax and all. See Uploading documents for what happens after.
Switched tabs and the banner vanished? It belongs to the tab it found the bill on, so it never follows you around. Go back to the bill page and it will offer again.

Bills already sitting in your open tabs

You do not have to visit each page again. Settings → Tabs → Look for documents in open tabs is on by default. It finds the invoices and receipts already open in your tabs. It only counts the documents on each page, inside your browser, and no page text is sent anywhere. Filing stays your call, one tab at a time. The finds appear under Documents in your open tabs in the chat’s Tasks menu. Click one and the extension switches to that tab, where the usual Save to eggz banner offers to capture it. With the setting off, the menu says Turn on in Settings. See Settings & privacy.

What gets sent (and what doesn’t)

Keeping it honest:
  • When the bill is a PDF, including one opened in Chrome’s built-in viewer, the capture sends the original PDF file, filename and all pages intact, so multi-page invoices arrive complete. Only an on-screen web-page invoice falls back to a picture of what’s visible.
  • It sends anything at all only when you click to capture.
  • The “looks like a bill” check happens on your computer. Pages aren’t sent anywhere just for being looked at.
  • Your everyday browsing is not uploaded. Nothing leaves your browser until you choose to capture.
The bill-detector is smart, but not psychic. It may occasionally wave at a page that isn’t really a bill. Close it with the ✕ and it will not raise that page again. And when a web page is captured as a picture (rather than an original PDF), glance over the screen first so nothing private tags along.

What a capture costs

  • One capture is one document and uses one document credit, however many pages the PDF has. Capturing a file eggz already holds, byte for byte, is free: eggz says it’s already in eggz. A fresh screenshot of the page is a new picture, so it counts.
  • A collect also skips the invoices or receipts eggz already holds from the same website. See How document credits are counted.

If your credits run out

Bills are captured with the same document credits as the rest of eggz. If your organisation runs out, the banner says Document credits exhausted and links to Billing. Upgrade and you’re back in business.

A whole page of bills at once

A supplier’s billing portal listing a year of invoices does not need a hundred clicks. When the extension finds three or more documents on one page it offers to fetch them all, tells you how many are new before you decide, and lets you narrow the run to invoices only, receipts only, or a few you tick by hand.
