You have six tabs open for the BAS lodgement and a meeting in ten minutes. Close them and you lose the thread. Leave them and they bury everything else. A task keeps those tabs together under one name, with a due date. Saving a task never closes anything. When the work is due, the tabs are one click away. Tasks need you to be signed in to eggz, because they live in your eggz account. They follow you across Chrome windows and the dashboard. A backup does not carry them.

Where to find Tasks

Tasks is the third tab in the side panel and the floating card, after Open Tabs and Workspaces. On the dashboard it sits under Open Tabs in the sidebar, with a count beside it. The briefcase in the chat’s header also takes you there.

Save a task

There are three ways in:
  • Right-click a page, open eggz Tab Manager, and choose Save as a task.
  • Click the + in the ask bar, labelled Add, and choose New task. This works in the side panel, the card and the dashboard.
  • On an empty Tasks tab, click Save this tab as a task.
Each one opens a New task card: Click Save task, or Cancel to leave without saving.

Due dates

Click the choice you picked a second time to clear it and leave the task with no date. A time in the past cannot be saved.

The list

Tasks are grouped under Overdue, Today, Later and No date. Each group shows its count and the favicons of its pages, and you can collapse it. Today opens first. A row shows a round tick, the name, and when it is due: a time if it is today, a weekday within the next six days, otherwise a date like 12 Oct. Below the name is a row of page icons. Click one to open that page.
  • Tick it to mark the task done. A message says Done. Nice work. with Undo, or press ⌘Z (Ctrl+Z). A double click ticks once. The row stays where it was until the list refreshes.
  • Hover a row and a clock button appears. It opens the Due date menu with the same choices, plus Pick a date and time, Cancel and Snooze.
  • Search tasks at the top searches by name. Esc closes it.
  • Sort and Show done sorts by Due date or Newest, and shows Amount when you have approvals waiting. Its Show done box lists finished tasks struck through, 25 at a time, newest first.
When more than one kind of row exists, filter chips appear: All, To approve, From your books and Your tasks. A line reading N hidden by filters with Clear tells you when something is out of sight. With nothing open, the tab says No tasks yet: Save this tab, or right-click any page and choose Save as a task. Once you have ticked everything off this week, it says All done and shows Done this week with a count. On the dashboard, the Tasks pane adds a Person filter once two or more people have tasks, and column headers you can sort by: Task name, Amount and Due date.

When a task is due

A band appears under the heading when a task comes due while you are away. It reads Due now: and the task name, with a line like Thu 9:00 am · 2 tabs. Before midday it can also say how many tasks are due today. It has four controls:
  • Open tabs opens the task’s pages.
  • Mark done ticks it.
  • Snooze on a due task opens the Due date menu. On the morning summary it only hides the band until midday and changes no dates.
  • The cross dismisses it.
Nothing opens until you press Open tabs. If Chrome opens none of them, the band stays and says Chrome didn’t open those tabs, so this stays here for another go. The dashboard header has an Open today’s button for the same job.

Open tabs without asking

Settings → Tabs → Open a task’s tabs when it’s due is off by default and only shows when you are signed in. Turn it on and, at a task’s due date and time, its tabs open once in the window you are using. It is the only thing in eggz that opens tabs on its own.
  • It checks every minute.
  • It only opens tasks that came due while the setting was on, so turning it on never opens old overdue tasks.
  • Each task opens once, even if you are signed in on two browsers.
  • Snooze a task to a new time and it can open again.
  • The setting belongs to you. Someone else signed in on the same Chrome profile sees it off.

Approvals

If you are signed in with an organisation, To approve sits at the top of Tasks. There is nothing to switch on. It holds what your team has sent for a decision. A team receipt shows the receipt, supplier, amount, sender and day. Other approvals show the action and a summary. Each row has:
  • A tick to Approve.
  • An X to Reject.
  • More, with Open in eggz.
Click a row to see the details: Category, GST, Paid with, Submitted and a large receipt. Rejecting a team receipt needs a reason. A box labelled Reason · Required says who will see it, such as Sam will see this. Write 1 to 500 characters, then choose Reject or Keep it. ⌘Enter (Ctrl+Enter) sends it and Esc keeps the task. Other approvals reject without a reason. To decide several at once, select the rows. A bar shows N selected and their total, with Reject and Approve. Select all is at the top of the section. A decision waits five seconds before it is sent, so Undo works on the message that follows (Approved, Rejected or 3 approved). Closing the panel sends whatever is waiting.

From your books

This section shows three count rows: Receipts not in any month yet, Emails held back from your books and Purchases that look like the same bill. The first asks eggheadz to help sort it out. Beneath them, Sent back lists your own team receipts that an approver rejected, as Sent back · the reason. Click one to open it in eggz. Editing it there sends it for approval again.
