# Session Time-Travel

> Automatic snapshots of your tabs every five minutes, restoring any point as a fresh workspace, and what happens when Chrome restarts

You close the wrong ten tabs, or the browser goes down in the middle of a research session. Either way, a copy of your session from five minutes ago is sitting there waiting.

This page shows you what gets captured, how to bring a moment back, and what happens after a restart.

## A copy of your session, every five minutes

**Session Time-Travel** takes an automatic snapshot of your current window's tabs every 5 minutes: what is open, the tab order, your Chrome tab groups, and which tab you were on. It keeps the most recent 50 snapshots, so you can rewind roughly the last four hours of browsing.

It is on by default. The switch lives in **Settings → Advanced → Sessions**, at the top of the screen.

  Snapshots capture the window you were last working in. If you run several windows, it is the one in focus that gets captured.

## Restore a snapshot

    Click the **Settings** gear, then **Advanced**, then **Sessions**. Every kept snapshot is listed, newest first, with how long ago it was taken and how many tabs it holds.

    Pick the moment you want back and click **Restore**.

    The snapshot is restored as a brand-new workspace, named after its time, like **Snapshot — Jul 30, 2:15 PM**, and the panel takes you to it. Your current tabs are not touched: nothing closes and nothing reloads. Switch to the snapshot workspace when you are ready, or pluck out the tabs you needed and delete it afterwards.

  Because a restore is just a workspace, everything on [Workspaces & tabs](/help/unscrambled-tabs/workspaces) applies. Rename it, keep it, or delete it once it has served its purpose.

## When Chrome restarts

You do not need to do anything after a restart. eggz Tab Manager picks your session back up on its own.

If Chrome's own "continue where you left off" has already brought your tabs back, the extension simply reconnects them to your active workspace, including your [custom tab names](/help/unscrambled-tabs/manage-tabs#rename-any-tab).

If your tabs did not come back, the extension re-opens your active workspace for you: tabs, pinned state, tab groups (names, colours, collapsed state), custom names, and the tab you were focused on.

Either way, you start the day where you ended the last one.

## Privacy and storage

Snapshots contain tab titles and web addresses, and they live in your browser's extension storage on your computer. They are included when you [export an encrypted backup](/help/unscrambled-tabs/backup-import), so a backup can carry your recent history to a new machine too.
