# Meet the side panel & dashboard

> A guided tour of Unscrambled Tabs' two homes — the compact side panel for everyday driving, and the full-page dashboard for big-picture organising

## Two surfaces, one brain

Unscrambled Tabs gives you two views of the same data:

* The **side panel** — a slim companion that docks beside any page. Built for the everyday moves: switch workspace, glance at open tabs, ask the AI, tweak a setting.
* The **dashboard** — a full browser tab with room to spread out. Built for organising: folders, drag-and-drop, bulk clean-ups, and the tabs-and-resources view of each workspace.

Anything you do in one shows up in the other instantly.

## The side panel

Click the **Unscrambled Tabs** icon in your toolbar and the side panel opens. From top to bottom:

**The header** carries four small buttons:

| Button | What it does |
| --------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ |
| **Light / Dark mode** | Flips the theme |
| **Open Dashboard** | Opens the full-page dashboard (it lives in a pinned tab, so it's always where you left it) |
| **Approvals** | Your [automation approvals inbox](/help/unscrambled-tabs/ai-and-search#the-approvals-inbox) — a badge shows how many decisions are waiting |
| **Settings** | Every setting, in one place — see [Settings & privacy](/help/unscrambled-tabs/settings-privacy) |

**The view switcher** underneath has three tabs — **Workspaces**, **AI Assistant**, and **Search**:

* **Workspaces** is home: your [Open Tabs section](/help/unscrambled-tabs/open-tabs) pinned at the top (by default), then Active and Pinned workspaces, folders, and the active workspace's resources. **New** creates a workspace; the folder icon creates a folder.
* **AI Assistant** is [the chat](/help/unscrambled-tabs/ai-and-search) — with a small toggle in its header to flip between **AI** and **Search**.
* **Search** finds workspaces, open tabs, saved tabs, and resources as you type.

(If you've set Open Tabs to **Dedicated tab** in Settings, an **Open Tabs** view joins the switcher too.)

The side panel is also where the pop-up helpers live: the [bill-capture banner](/help/unscrambled-tabs/capture-bills), the **Alt+A** [quick switcher](/help/unscrambled-tabs/keyboard-shortcuts#jump-to-a-workspace-alta), and the **Alt+D** save-to-workspace picker.

## The dashboard

Click **Open Dashboard** in the side panel header. (After you first install, the dashboard opens itself as a pinned tab so it's ready when you are.) It has three regions:

### The sidebar — rail or expanded

By default the sidebar is a slim **icon rail**: **Open Tabs** at the top (with a live count of your tabs), your **pinned workspaces** as one-click icons, then an icon per **folder** — hover one and its workspaces fan out in a flyout. At the bottom: **New folder**, **New workspace**, and the theme toggle.

Want the full list? Click the expand button (or press `⌘B` / `Ctrl+B`) to pin the sidebar open: **Open Tabs**, your **Active** workspace, the **Pinned** section, and every folder with its workspaces — this expanded view is where [drag-and-drop reordering and bulk actions](/help/unscrambled-tabs/workspaces#select-several-at-once-bulk-actions) happen.

### The main area

Pick **Open Tabs** and the main area becomes the full [Open Tabs view](/help/unscrambled-tabs/open-tabs). Pick a workspace and you get its two panes, side by side:

* **Tabs** — the workspace's saved tabs ([click, rename, reorder, remove](/help/unscrambled-tabs/workspaces#the-tabs-inside-a-workspace)).
* **Resources** — its [saved links](/help/unscrambled-tabs/workspaces#resources-saved-links).

Drag the divider between them to resize the split — the dashboard remembers your preference. Above the panes, the workspace header shows its name and counts, a **Search** button (or just press **/**), the theme toggle, and — when you're looking at a workspace your window isn't using — a **Switch to this workspace** button.

### The AI dock

Along the bottom sits the AI composer, always one glance away: type into **"How can I help you today?"** and press Enter, or tap a suggestion chip. Click **Open chat** (or just start chatting) and the full assistant expands over the page; **Esc** tucks it away again. It's the same one chat as the side panel — same conversation, same memory. See [AI assistant & search](/help/unscrambled-tabs/ai-and-search).

## Which one should I use?

Honestly: both. Keep the side panel for driving — switching, saving, asking — and pop into the dashboard when it's tidy-up time. A common rhythm is dashboard on Monday morning (organise the week into workspaces), side panel the rest of the week (live in them).
