# AI assistant & the command bar

> One chat that knows your tabs, your workspaces and your eggz books, plus ⌘K to find anything and run actions by name

You have forty tabs open and a question that spans two of them: which of these have I not saved anywhere yet? Answering it by hand means reading the whole strip.

This page covers the assistant that can answer questions like that, what it can and cannot see, and the command bar that finds your things and runs actions by name.

## One chat

Open the **AI Assistant** tab and type. There are no modes to switch between. One chat handles your bills, invoices, quotes, accounts and receipts, as well as your open tabs and workspaces.

The assistant is included with your eggz plan. There is no API key to paste.

  Sign in to unlock the AI. The easiest path is to [connect your eggz account](/help/unscrambled-tabs/eggz-account). Signed out, the AI tab shows a **Sign in to eggz** card instead. Once you are in, the AI is covered by your eggz plan, and fair use applies.

Two things make it comfortable to live with. Replies stream in live as they are written, so you are not staring at a blank box. And your conversation is kept with your account, so you can close the browser, come back later, and it is still there.

## It knows what you have open

The chat does not only see the one tab you are staring at. It knows about every open tab in every window, including the ones Chrome has put to sleep to save memory. By default it sees only the names and web addresses, the titles and URLs, so it knows what you have going on without waking anything.

It also knows the names of things in your saved library: your workspaces, folders, and saved links. So you can ask it things like:

* *"Which of my open tabs are about the kitchen reno?"*
* *"Did I already save a workspace for the tax stuff?"*
* *"Round up all my shopping tabs and tuck them into one group."*

<Tip>
  Sleeping tabs stay asleep. The chat sees the name and address of a sleeping tab, but it will not wake it up to look, because that would spend the memory you were trying to save.

  It asks before it reads a page
</h2>

Names and addresses are one thing. Reading what is written on a page is another, so the chat asks first. When it wants to read the contents of a page, or look at one of your records, a permission card appears. It flags how sensitive the request is, and you choose **Approve** to let it read this page for this request only, or **Deny** to refuse.

It asks every time it wants to read a page, so you are never handing over a blanket pass. The permission card appears right in the chat, at the moment it is needed.

  The Approvals inbox
</h3>

Separate from page-read permission, the header of the card and side panel has an **Approvals** inbox, the tray icon with a badge showing the count. This is where your organisation's eggz automations queue anything that wants a human decision, such as a drafted bill waiting for a yes. It is there when you are signed in with your organisation. Approve or decline each card and it is on its way.

  Nothing on a page leaves your browser until you say yes. Until you approve, the chat only ever sees names and web addresses, never the actual words on the page.

When you do say yes, the extension reads the page cleanly. It pulls out the real article or content and skips the menus, ads and clutter. And when the assistant writes back, any images in its reply are shown as plain text rather than loaded, so a dodgy page cannot use them to phone home.

  Organise your tabs with a nudge
</h2>

There is an **Organize** button in the chat header. Tap it and the AI sorts your open tabs into sensible groups, across all your windows rather than just the one in front of you. You can then drop those groups straight into a new or existing workspace so they are saved for later. On the dashboard, the same thing is one of the suggestions on the ask bar.

## The bill-capture suggestion

If you have been browsing supplier or shop websites, the chat may show a small suggestion chip, something like *"You've visited supplier.com today — capture any bills?"* Tap it and your question is already typed out for you.

It only does this after you have visited a couple of different sites recently, so it stays a gentle nudge. More on [Capture bills from any page](/help/unscrambled-tabs/capture-bills).

  When you run low on AI credits
</h2>

If your eggz plan's included AI gets used up, the chat shows an upgrade card rather than simply stopping. The card also lets you invite a friend, and when they join, you both get free AI credits.

<h2 id="search-anything-k">
  Search anything
</h2>

To find a workspace, a tab, or a saved link in a hurry, open search from your keyboard, from any tab:

* Mac: ⌘K
* Windows and Linux: Ctrl+Shift+K

Start typing and matches surface instantly, grouped into four buckets. **Workspaces** switch when you press **Enter**. **Open tabs** covers every live tab across every window, freshest first, and **Enter** jumps you straight to that tab wherever it is. **Saved tabs** covers tabs stored inside your workspaces, including any [custom names you have given them](/help/unscrambled-tabs/manage-tabs#rename-any-tab). **Resources** covers your saved links, with the section they live in.

Use ↑/↓ to move, **Enter** to go, **Esc** to close. Archived workspaces stay out of the results on purpose, because search is for what you are working on.

Search runs over your own saved data on your computer. It does not need the internet or your account.

  The command bar
</h2>

On the dashboard, the same box does something more. As well as finding things, it runs actions by name.

Open it while the dashboard is the tab you are on by pressing **/**, which is quickest, or **⌘K** (**Ctrl+K** on Windows and Linux), or by clicking the **Search** button in the dashboard header. Pressing the global search shortcut while you are on the dashboard opens this rather than the side panel.

Type nothing and you get a list of things you can do. Type a word and it narrows. Commands always sit at the top, above the four search buckets.

| **Archive workspace…**     | Keeps everything, takes it out of the lists      |
| **Suspend other tabs**     | Frees their memory, and they reload when clicked |
| **Close duplicate tabs**   | Same page open twice, so it keeps one            |
| **Toggle sidebar**         | Shows or hides the workspace list                |
| **Open settings**          | Account, backup, shortcuts and more              |

A name ending in **…** asks a second question. Pick **Switch workspace…** and it follows up with your workspace list. **Esc** steps back.

A command only appears when it would actually do something. **Close duplicate tabs** stays out of sight unless you really have a duplicate, and the tab commands need a web page to act on. Six are shown at a time, so keep typing to reach the rest.

  It matches on more than the exact words. Typing *dup* finds **Close duplicate tabs**, *susp* finds **Suspend other tabs**, and initials work too, so **cw** finds **Create workspace**.

## Jump to the AI assistant

To go straight to the chat:

* Mac: ⌘J
* Windows and Linux: Ctrl+Shift+J

On the dashboard, **⌘I** (**Ctrl+I**) opens the ask bar along the bottom instead. It is the same chat, without leaving the page.

## If you would rather not use the AI

You can skip the AI entirely and the rest of the extension carries on. Workspaces, performance modes, snapshots and backup all work with no AI at all. The AI only taps you on the shoulder for AI-specific things.
